Some chapters were decent, some really just weren't. I found that most of this text was dry and focused on so many individual theories that I could hardly keep up. I'd say a suitable way to improve the text would be to include more relevance. I found that the only chapters I was even slightly engaged while reading were the ones that provided relevance and gave real world examples instead of just explaining theory. This provide a sense of personal engagement, and put the theories into action.

I teach an upper division college course with this textbook; the course is, "Psychology of Motivation." I continue to use the 2002 Fifth Edition, because the newer Sixth Edition is 98% identical to the Fifth. First, the fact that this book has reached six editions shows that it is highly successful; it is the most popularly chosen text for motivation courses. EMOTION is a large topic in the book, with five chapters. Students have responded positively to the book. As is true with other upper division textbooks in psychology, the book has a "plain appearance," lacking color printing, and other features that are common with lower division textbooks. There is no study guide, and no review questions at the ends of chapters. Some topics overlap with other psychology courses: these topics are sleep, drug addiction, sexuality. One of the most interesting specialized topics is the sensation-seeking personality --- people who love sports that are "dangerous to life and limb." Physiological topics are also covered ---- most interesting of which is the role of the brain's amygdala in negative motives and emotions ---- the amygdala is the brain's seat of prejudicial beliefs. very helpful for human motivation psychology

Hard to evaluate a textbook, but this one I have an opinion about. The text itself is pretty standard fare, but the online features really drive the concepts home. I am in a CD-ROM/Distance Learning Course and find that the extra "browsing" really suites my learning style and doesn't feel like hard work. I enjoy the supplemental reading and it is really helping me with sources for my midterm. At first, I balked at the price, but now I am really thankful for the online section.

An abolitionist more out of political convenience than conviction, she not only abandoned the movement for black male suffrage after the Civil War to focus on white women’s suffrage but increasingly made vitriolic attacks on immigrants, the working class, and African-Americans in her writing and speeches. The consequences of Stanton’s racism and élitism were “deep and hurtful,” Ginzberg says, and she attributes the continuing difficulty of incorporating race and class differences into gender politics, in large part, to Stanton’s mixed legacy.

About the Author
For more than 30 years, Rick Healy has been conducting research for the U.S. Geological Survey on groundwater recharge, water budgets of natural and human-impacted hydrologic systems, and fluid and contaminant transport through soils. He has taught numerous short courses on unsaturated zone flow and transport, and groundwater flow modelling. He first presented a short course on methods for estimating recharge in 1994, and over the intervening 15 years the course has been presented to several hundred professionals and students. The material in that course has been expanded and refined over the years and forms the basis of Estimating Groundwater Recharge. Rick has authored more than 60 scientific publications and is developer of the VS2DI suite of models for simulating water, solute, and heat transport through variably saturated porous media. He is a member of the Soil Science Society of America, the American Geophysical Union, and the Geological Society of America.
